Welcome to the RiskLab Knowledge Base!

The RiskLab develops and implements risk-relevant applications for the areas of weather, climate, geology and geophysics with a focus on natural hazards relevant to GeoSphere Austria.

GOALS

  • Development of applications and products for data-driven, impact-based warning systems of GeoSphere Austria and specific user groups
  • Development and provision of risk assessments and services for the public, the administration and companies in the area of climate and natural hazards
  • Operation and continuous development of the national damage and event database for Austria (CESARE)

The ‚RiskLab – Weather, Climate & Natural Hazards‘ at GeoSphere Austria focuses on disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change in Austria.

As a cross-cutting topic within the different areas of GeoSphere Austria (weather, climate, geology, geophysics), it integrates models and data on hazard, exposure and vulnerability in order to comprehensively assess risks.

By developing innovative risk analyses and assessments and providing relevant information, the RiskLab creates a sound basis for research and practice.

At the same time, it promotes the transfer of knowledge and networking with relevant stakeholders within and outside GeoSphere Austria.

As an interdisciplinary risk center within a weather and geoservice, the RiskLab plays a pioneering role and is establishing itself as a leading competence center for weather, climate and natural hazard risks - both in Austria and internationally.
